How do you spend your summer days? My perfect afternoon is sitting by the pool, sipping ice tea, and reading a book. I like to dip in the water, cool off, and return to my lounger. Well, that is more of a dream these days than a reality.
It usually goes like this; I head to the pool with my tribe of grandchildren. A large inflatable duck now floats ominously about.
The kids, eager for fun, grab inner tubes, water guns, and boogie boards. It is game on, and I realize I'm a target. Gone are the days when I can be glamorous at the pool with my hair teased out, cute sunglasses, and perfect makeup. Now it is filled with screams of excitement and cannonballs.
My grandsons make a sport out of splashing me. In their eyes, I am afraid of the water. They don't know their Gigi, the crazy part, the woman who is not scared of anything. I like to have fun, back in the day, I would be the first to jump off a cliff into the water.
Keeping my hair dry is more of a necessity. You see, I have curly hair that I like to wear straight, which means an hour or so blow drying it out. So I avoid the splashes and the water guns. Meanwhile, my husband is enjoying all the frolicking, catching the kids and tossing them in the air.
No one wants to sit on the sidelines. I want to join in with all the fun. So I do. Thanks to my new purchase of a bathing cap. I feel hip in a retro way, impressing them with my version of the cannonball.
After all, girls just wanna have fun.
