5 Favorite Ways To Get Healthy in 2022

I am all about improving my health naturally, staying fit, eating right, regular checkups at the doctor's office.

Recently I have begun NAD IV therapy. Like me, you're wondering what NAD is and why it is crucial as we age.

NAD is a coenzyme found naturally in the body. It is responsible for many functions on a cellular level.

As we age, the levels of NAD in our bodies are reduced. Why is this a big deal, well our DNA strands are intertwined and at the end of these strands are protective caps called telomeres. Each time a cell divides, the telomere is shortened. Eventually, the telomere is destroyed, and the cell can no longer divide. By increasing NAD levels, the telomere is protected, and the aging process is slowed.

NAD IV therapy also improves skin and muscle tone, increases your energy level, and helps with cognitive function.

Stay fit, stay healthy, be happy!

For as long as I can remember, I aim to do some sort of exercise at least 5 days a week. My routine has varied through the years: jazzercise, dancing, pilates, barre, walking, hiking, weight training and snowshoeing. However, because of where I live I feel like I get a great workout by hiking with my friends at an altitude of 6,200 feet (I live in beautiful Colorado). From a gal that lived mostly at sea levels all her life (Florida, Arizona & California) this was an adjustment but I love how I feel when my schedule allows me to get outside and enjoy nature.

During the last two+ years, I keep healthy by taking Vitamin C gummies and a Zinc tablet/daily. Both of these supplements have been shown to boost your immune system. This has worked great in keeping me healthy and always ready to play with my grandchildren. After my last vaccine and booster, I did get vitamin IV therapy and I feel that prevented me from having any side effects from the shots.

However you stay healthy, I wish you lots of great happiness, love and health in 2022!

I am still not comfortable with going back to the gym, which I really enjoyed. I loved taking the classes and I always felt like physically going to the gym made me actually follow through with an exercise program. However, I found there are many other options to take advantage of to help stay fit and healthy. One of them is walking. I live in Arizona so most of the year is perfect for walking in our beautiful weather, especially right now. When summer hits, not so much. Here are some of the benefits you get from walking.

  • lowers blood pressure and strengthens the heart

  • tones leg and abdominal muscles

  • improves sleep

  • reduces stress and improves your mood

  • creates less stress on joints

  • reduces risk for cancer and chronic disease

  • improves endurance

  • can help you maintain a healthy weight

Walking is also my time to plan, to meditate, to relax and to appreciate and enjoy my surroundings. It makes my day a better day mentally and physically.

Be healthy, enjoy life and go take a walk!

I began reading a book in late 2021 and it inspired me to begin changing a couple of areas in my life that I definitely felt stuck in. Those areas for me were diet and exercise! Although, not the best time of year to begin making those changes in the midst of the holiday season, my mindset however, was to JUST DO IT!!

I began going to the gym daily regardless of how I FELT and I also began to incorporate counting the macros I was consuming daily. By counting macros I was able to optimize my diet so that I was fueling my body from the right sources by keeping my carbs, fat and protein intake in balance!! To help me stay on track I use the food diary app MyFitnessPal, which has been so easy to use. An easy to follow article on how to count macros can be found here. I also found and use this digital kitchen scale, which works great in helping me with portion control and takes up no space in my kitchen.

Whatever your health goals are for 2022, I encourage you to JUST DO IT. The book that inspired me is titled, The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins, and can be found here on Amazon.

I’m cheering for you as you reach your health goals in 2022!!

Since it is now the new year, we all want to detox that holiday sugar, right? I’ve previously posted about the many benefits of the Keto way of eating. Here is one of the secrets to avoid the “Keto Flu” and stay hydrated no matter what your eating plan is. It is an electrolyte drink powder from Redmond called Re-lyte.

It’s so important to keep the right balance of minerals when you’re exercising and dieting or even when you are down with a cold or flu. This delicious drink powder mix fits the bill and comes in six flavors including mango, strawberry lemonade, and mixed berry. It has a great salty, sweet flavor with only 5 calories and clean ingredients including coconut water powder, and sea salt. It contains all the right minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium. You can find it here on Amazon or on the Redmond website. I use one scoop in a quart size mason jar of cold filtered water and use a handheld coffee frother to mix it all up, but a shaker cup can be used, as well. Throw out that sugar-filled gatorade and try this healthy hydration mix instead.

Take care and stay well,

Nana Alison
