We all have those memories that are forever embedded in our hearts...our wedding day, our children's births, their weddings, the day we hear the magical words "you're going to be a grandma". Let's face it, not only are the parents preparing for their new roles as mom and dad, my husband and I were preparing for our new roles as Gigi and Pa. We, however, did not have any apprehension about our new titles. There was absolutely no doubt in our minds that our grandchildren would be loved beyond measure by us.
In preparing for the arrival of our first grandchild, I looked high and low for special gifts to bring to her on her birth date. One of the gifts I found for our granddaughter was a beautifully written and illustrated book entitled "On The Day You Were Born" by Nancy Tillman. On the inside cover, I wrote a note to my granddaughter about the day she was born. Subsequently, when my second granddaughter was born that was one of her special gifts as well as my first grandson. If I am honest, it will go to each of my future grandchildren as well. In this book, parents and grandparents celebrate the wonder and marvel that is their newborn baby/grandchild and this book conveys to children "You are the one and only ever you."
Since then I have found several books from this author that I have bought for my grandchildren for the library at Gigi and Pa's house.
Wishes are a magical part of childhood. Whether we wish on stars or blow out candles on a cake, our dreams matter. Nancy Tillman captures the wonder of wishes with love.
This book assures children of their importance not only to their families but how each of us fits into life's big picture and how the world would be incomplete without them.
In this book, children feel the reassuring love of their parents no matter where they go or what they do.
This author has so many other books that I have not yet purchased but guaranteed, they will someday be in one of my three grandchildrens' library or Gigi's library. All of her stories have whimsical animals throughout them making them not only fun to read but artwork that engages the children. The underlying message in all of her books that I have purchased convey the message "you are loved". To which I say, who doesn't need to hear those words more frequently.
These books make excellent shower or birthday gifts. I hope you enjoy them as much as my family does.
